Weekend Fun

Weekends always seem to be packed with fun, and of course are always too short. We went to a party on Saturday for two little boys, Dillon and Justin. There was a big bounce house/slide where all the kids played, and for some reason Vance wanted nothing to do with it. So, he and Ainsley played on the little plastic slide. Eventually the turtle was brought out which the kids loved, though they didn't want to touch it.
Then on Sunday, my folks and sisters came over for dinner. After being bribbed with a "treat" Vance allowed Aunt Megan to wear his goggles. He was not very amused when Grampa took them and wouldn't give them back (though Grampa thought it was great fun!).

New Car!

Vance got to take the car on a spin

Both our Hyundais in the garage

As per American tradition, Kev decided to get his new car (albeit a Korean car) ON Memorial Day, despite having over a month left on his Beemer lease. After looking at Mercedes and Toyota, he settled on the Hyundai Genesis which he had had his eye on for a while. Unfortunately, Ainsley was sick, and so I did not get to go with him to test drive, or more importantly, pick the color of the new car (I think he did a pretty good job all on his own though). After finally settling on the actual car and monthly price, he made the deal, thus officially making us a Hyundai family!

The Party Never Ends...

We had yet to celebrate Kev's birthday with my folks and sisters, so that's what we did on Sunday. :)

Saturday we kicked off our Memorial Day weekend with a pool party at my dad's friend, Doug's house. Kev had convinced Vance to leave his goggles behind, so I found it quite hilarious that upon arriving at the party, Vance immediately found a pair of blue swim goggles and put them right on (his head of course, not his eyes). He proceeded to wear them for nearly the whole party. Old habits die hard, I guess. We all had a really great time. The pool was heated and had a nice big top step where Ainsley loved to sit and play. And both kids liked the blow-up raft. For dinner we had the all-American brats and burgers with pasta salad, fruit salad, potato chips and beer! It was a fun and exhausting day. The pic of Vance asleep in the car was taken before we even hit the main road. What a great start to a long weekend!

Cops and Robbers

The kids were playing the other day, and I just happened to get these two shots which I really liked. Okay, so Vance shooting a gun at me was not my finest moment as a mother, but it was all in the name of getting the perfect shot, right? And have you seen a cuter cop in all your life!?

Playdates

Vance, Ainsley, Caleb and Aaron playing at the park near our house...

Vance, Rylee and Emma running through the fountain at Irvine Spectrum

Impromptu or planned, our days consist of a series of fun-filled, energy-releasing playdates. I have been blessed to know many wonderful moms, whom I am proud to call my friends, and the added bonus of getting together with them, is that our kids get to play too! And since I'm on this kick of taking lots of pictures, I figured I'd post the ones from these playdates...

P.S. The goggles were back today. :)

Lightening vs. Bob, part II

This morning, Vance woke up, put on his new Lightening McQueen T-shirt, and sans goggles went downstairs to eat breakfast. This is completely unheard of on any given day. On the days he accidentally forgets them, it is an immediate and frantic rush to find them and put them on. At first, I thought he forgot them, so I very casually asked if he was being Lightening today. He said he was. Then I asked if that was why he wasn't wearing his goggles, and he said it was! I think we may be exiting this stage (sniff, sniff). For as much as I have hated the goggles at times, I will be very sorry to see them go. They have had a pretty long stint here (close to a year and a half), and quite honestly, Vance looks weird to me without them! I guess we'll see how long this hiatus lasts...

Three Kids for a Day

Brooke has gone back to work, and I have agreed to watch my little nephew, Jase, a couple of days each week until Brooke is off for summer break. Today went really well, and (being inspired by my friend and talented photographer, Jenny) I wanted to take some pics of the kiddos. Here are the results (after a little doctoring). I especially love the shot of Jase wearing the infamous goggles. Vance was so sweet with him, and wanted to share the goggles since Jase loved to look at them. If only we were privy to the thoughts of that little mind as he stared at his cousin and those red things on his head. :)
